Art Trail pulls crowdsThere is a thriving artists community in Mangawhai with 19 venues and 52 artists displaying their art works at the recent Mangawhai Art Trail in late March. The Art Trail attracted visitors from Raglan, Napier, Hastings, New Plymouth, Whangarei, Kerekeri, Ahipara, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, and of course lots of Mangawhai locals. Even the on and off again showers on Saturday afternoon couldn’t deter those determined to get around as many of the venues they could. “I estimated that it took over 80 artists, associate artists, spouses and partners to organise this event,” said Mangawhai Artists Inc president Jeanette Vickers. “That our Art Trail was so successful is testament to their commitment to the arts in Mangawhai.” Jeanette says thanks must also go to generous sponsors Carters, Heads FM, Sarah C Design, Takapu Blue Ltd, The Mangawhai Focus and other local newspapers. Mangawhai Artists Inc will hold their next Art Trail in late September. The group has plans to push for a purpose-built art centre next to the Mangawhai Museum in Molesworth Drive.
