After the blustery winds of early March, the TimberWorld-sponsored Mangawhai Boating & Fishing Club Easter fishing competition saw brilliant weather and a kind sea. Though just a handfull of juniors, a record number of just over a hundred adults caught plenty of fish – no monsters, but a good variety with a total of 85 fish weighed in.

Results: Kingfish Heaviest overall and ladies overall winner Emma Fenton, 8.09kg. Snapper 1 Bruce Fenton 6.15kg, 2 Scott Thompson 5.92kg, 3 Denwin Henvey, 4.99kg. Trevally 1 Mike Anderson 1.975kg, 2 Denwin Henvey 1.75kg, 3 Scott Thompson 1.67kg. Kahawai 1 Scott Thompson 2.73kg, 2 Jason Otter 2.71kg, 3 Craig Bridger 2.59kg. John Dory 1 John Drake 1.84kg, 2 Murray Dix 1.53kg, 3 Jason Dockery 0.88kg. Junior heaviest 1 Dylan Maitland 2.24kg, 2 James Maitland 2.14kg, 3 Aleisha Blackett 2.05kg.
