Mermaids entertain in the Olive GroveNo Mangawhai Walking Weekend at the end of March is complete without and evening of food, wine and fun in the Olive Grove where visitors and locals enjoy the freedom of light revelry and unashamed dancing. There is a thriving art-ists community in Man-gawhai with 19 venues and 52 artists displaying their art works at the re-cent Mangawhai Art Trail in late March. The Art Trail attract-ed visitors from rag-lan, Napier, Hastings, New Plymouth, Whanga-rei, Kerekeri, Ahipara, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, and of course lots of Mangawhai locals. Even the on and off again showers on Satur-day afternoon couldn’t deter those determined to get around as many of the venues they could. “i estimated that it took over 80 artists, asso-ciate artists, spouses and partners to organise this event,” said Mangawhai Artists inc president Jean-ette Vickers. “That our Art Trail was so successful is testament to their com-mitment to the arts in Mangawhai.” Jeanette says thanks must also go to generous sponsors Carters, Heads FM, Sarah C Design, Takapu Blue ltd, The Mangawhai Focus and other local newspapers. Mangawhai Artists inc will hold their next Art Trail in late September. The group has plans to push for a purpose-built art centre next to the Mangawhai Museum in Molesworth Drive. |
