It’s generally conceded that the harbour is the jewel in Mangawhai’s crown either from a fishing point of view or simply as the glowing fore-ground to the pearly white sand dunes that frame it.
Environmental awards fund asking schools for entries
An annual $20,000 fund which helps fund and recognise Northland schools’ environmental education initiatives is up for grabs again.
Last year a record 23 Northland schools received funding from the Northland Regional Council Environmental Curriculum Awards (ECA) for 25 schoolground projects involving everything from disappearing native frogs to re-emerging kiwi.

Mangawhai builder shares home award
Kaipara and Mangawhai have featured highly in the 2014 Home Magazine Home of the Year awards.
The magazine features architecture, design and interiors and this year’s $15,000 prize was awarded to architect Nat Cheshire for his de-sign of two small cabins.

Council to review property portfolio
The Kaipara District continues to experience good growth measured in terms of building con-sents.In the first three quarters of the Council’s financial year ending 31 March 2014, the value of building consents re-ceived totalled just under $41.5 million.We have to go back to the 2008/09 year to find a period that had a higher value of consents received.

Men’s Fours Charity Tournament on March 29 and 30 has raised more than $10,000 towards construction of the museum on the corner of Molesworth Drive and Thelma Street.
