Local wireless goes back to the futureHow far does your memory go back in relation to pre-television days? Life With Dexter? Flick the Little Fire Engine? The Brass Band Parade compered by Lloyd Thorne? It’s In The Bag?
Well, here’s one widely known and loved in the world of live radio. This Sunday night, and every Sunday night at 8pm, The Wireless 90.4FM is replaying the legendary British radio comedy The Goon Show, starring Spike Milligan, Harry Secombe and Peter Sellers. It was originally produced and broadcast by the BBC Home Service from 1951 to 1960, and played here in NZ on the NZBC in the mid-sixties. The show's chief creator and main writer was Spike Milligan, with scripts that mixed ludicrous plots with surreal humour, puns, catch-phrases and an array of bizarre sound effects. Join Neddie, Eccles, Bluebottle, Henry Crun, Minnie Bannister, Hercules Grytpype-Thynne, Count Jim Moriarty, and Major Denis Bloodnok in their various wacky antics. The Goon Show, Sunday nights at 8pm (same time as it used to play on 1YA), is followed by Dragnet at 9pm. Sunday night is Serial Night on the Wireless 90.4FM. |
