Brigade to take on sky tower

Six members of the Mangawhai Volunteer Fire Brigade will compete in the grueling Sky Tower Stair Challenge on May 11. 

While youth is not really on their side, the Mangawhai boys did their station proud with good run times in last year’s event.

They also took out third prize in the helmet decoration competition and are looking for ideas for this year.

The fire fighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge is fast becoming a New Zealand tradition with up to 500 participants racing to complete the 1103 step climb in the fastest time – in full fire fighter gear.

Josh Harrison from Otara has the fastest time of 8 minutes and 39 seconds!

The event is a fundraiser for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand.
