Green thumb has big winGIANT: Shaan’s 78kg pumpkin that won the local competition. Warkworth’s Shaan Marter-Sagar has won the local Mitre 10 MEGA’s Easy As for Kids heaviest pumpkin competition. Weighing in at a massive 78kg, the massive vegetable impressed during the recent judging ceremony at Mitre 10 MEGA Warkworth. Three-year-old Shaan grew her pumpkin with assistance from her uncle, and the winning team is already preparing for next year’s competition. Mitre 10 MEGA Warkworth store manager, Paul Lee, is impressed with Shaan’s efforts. “The team here at Mitre 10 MEGA Warkworth are pleased to congratulate our store winner Shaan and wish her the best in her future growing projects.” The Mitre 10 MEGA BIG Pumpkin Contest is a national competition challenging children to grow a giant pumpkin. Launched in October 2012, children were asked to plant pumpkin seeds and care for them until pumpkin harvest time in April. Each Mitre 10 MEGA store throughout the country ran the competition with the heaviest pumpkin in each store in with a chance to take out the title of Grand National winner. Ashburton schoolgirl, Taylor Mackenzie, scooped the national top spot with her pumpkin weighing in at a whopping 124kg. |
