Thousands raised for museumThe Mangawhai Museum hosted hundreds of people over the two trading days of their annual Monster Easter Book Fair. “We are so appreciative of the community support we receive in our fundraising efforts,” says Christine Bygrave, Mangawhai Historical Society president. “Altogether with the proceeds of the Anniversary Weekend book fair, we raised over $20,000 which will go towards the new museum. “It is always a huge undertaking sorting, categorising and pricing the thousands of donated books we receive, and special thanks must go to all the volunteers who for weeks now have been doing just that. And they still face the prospect of a few more days work packing books and dismantling the trestles ready for the next exciting stage – construction of our displays and story boards.” Work on the museum interior is due to start in a few months, but it is still too early to give a date for the opening because of the reliance on voluntary labour. If you have any skills to offer and you are able to give a few hours of your time please contact Jim Wintle 431 4766 or Christine Bygrave 431 2057. |
