Walking Weekend trailblazers go bush This fresh and enthusiastic group are pictured on day one of the Mangawhai Walking Weekend 2013, tramping through the newly opened McKenzie Limestone Hill Scenic Reserve, an area virtually unknown to locals. Entry is from Mata Rd, Bream Bay. It is a track for trampers with some experience and traverses DoC land but contains a plethora of regenerating bush including some great young strong Kauri trees, historical remnants of an old Kauri logging mill and railway tracks, and this magnificent old Rata tree (background) where our group stopped for lunch. |
