Christian school seniors prepare for conventionEvery two years the senior school of Otamatea Christian School, years 7 to 10, prepare themselves to compete against students from all over the country that are schooled at home or attend Christian schools that offer the Accelerted Christian Education (ACE) Curriculum.
Students compete in academics, athletics, arts and craft, music and platform events. Students are encouraged each year to develop their existing talents and try new disciplines each time they compete. All students are expected to have a minimum of 12 and maximum of 20 entries. School principal, Lynette Bell, says she encourages students to develop their existing talents and try new disciplines where they build skills and develop new talents. Having performance criteria and a bar to aim for lifts the standards and expectations of the students she says. Convention cost is $280 per student for the week, covering all food and accommodation. Families that struggle often receive donations from church and family members within the close knit school community. |
