Local youth get chance to have a sayTeenagers need a voice says Libby Campbell. But not just teenagers – all youth from ages 12–25. This is what the Rodney Youth Advisory Panel (RYAP) is devoted to.
RYAP is a group of youth who work together to give other youth in Rodney a voice in their community and make sure they have a say in their future. A Year 13 student at Rodney College, Libby (pictured) has been on the panel as the Wellsford representative for almost two years. The panel is a new aspect of the Auckland Council that is working hard to improve aspects of the Auckland-wide community both short and long-term. This year’s local board plan has been drafted and they want Rodney youth of all ages to give feedback and ideas as to what the community of Rodney really wants. “No one wants to be forgotten, and this includes Wellsford – we all need to have our say whether we are part of Warkworth, Helensville, or central Auckland,” says Libby. “If there is something that you want to see changed in Wellsford or in the Rodney community in general, whether it is a new skateboard ramp, self-defense classes for women, or something bigger, you need to make sure you have your say to ensure that Wellsford and the Rodney community becomes what you want it to be.” n All feedback is valuable. If you have any questions, ideas, concerns or requests for the RYAP to bring to the Rodney Local Board, send your ideas to Libby by email, libbycampbell14@gmail.com. |
