Repairs to beach access completedThe Mangawhai Heads Volunteer Lifeguard Service were left without any access to the Heads surf beach after the recent storm washed away the gravel and rock track leading down from the surf club. Vice president Tony Baker notified Surf Life Saving Northern Region last month and requested that all after-hours call-out lifeguards be directed straight to the boat shed adjacent to the ramp on the Mangawhai estuary. Thanks goes to Ben Gardner (Water Boy) and Lake Road Quarries for the rocks and excavation for the washout rebuild, along with Peter McInnes and Murray Dix who worked hard to oversee the project. Pictured above, the rebuilt accessway has been retained, filled and compacted. „ Mangawhai tried really hard but Leah Panapa headed off Leigh Hart in the voting for the Selaks National Roast Day competition. However organisers were so impressed with the response that the Mangawhai Heads Volunteer Lifeguard Service are in line to receive $1,000 thanks to the efforts of the community.
