Northlanders give big to annual Chopper AppealThis year’s Westpac Chopper Appeal has raised $40,856 for the Northland Electricity Rescue Helicopter, part of a total of $1,550,000 raised across the country.
All donations from the Westpac Chopper Appeal will be distributed back to the 16 rescue chopper services across the country with the money collected in each region going back to the local Trust. Westpac’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Sue Foley, says the total raised is another fantastic effort. “New Zealanders have once again rallied behind their local Rescue Helicopters to ensure they can continue to carry out life-saving rescue missions every day,” says Foley. “We’d like to thank all the generous Kiwis who dug deep to show their support, as well as those who initiated and managed a huge variety of fundraising events in their communities. “The helicopters are such a vital emergency service, but they depend on the support and generosity of our community to stay in the air. It’s really important to play our part and raise awareness of this service, along with much-needed funds.” Electricity Rescue Helicopter spokesperson, John Bain, says “We are continually overwhelmed by the generosity of locals and could not be prouder to be part of this community. We would like to thank every person who made this possible as well as the support from Westpac through the Chopper Appeal every year.” Donations are welcome throughout the year and can be made at www.chopperappeal.co.nz or any Westpac branch. |
