Show must go on

The district’s longest running event, The Warkworth A&P Show, was in danger of closing due to funding issues. However, community spirit has come to the rescue with Bayleys Real Estate committed to sup-porting the event for an initial three year period.

Now the renamed Bayleys Warkworth A&P Lifestyle Show is scheduled for Saturday January 25 next year together with a number of changes.

Fundraising is now kicking off with a preview of the film About Time directed by Wellington born Richard Curtis who is well known for his classic genre films Notting Hill, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones’ Diary and Love Actually. This will be held at the Matakana Cinemas on Monday September 16 at 8pm. This is a premiere as the general release of the film will be on October 17. Raffles and spot prizes will also be a part of the evening with tickets available from Bayleys offices in Snells Beach and Warkworth.

Show secretary, Marjorie Blythen, advises there will be a new layout for the trade section.

“We are also introducing a crafts and pro-duce market area in addition to the trade sites. We also have our traditional Indoor section but a new Wearable Arts section is being promoted through Mahurangi College though all entries are welcome,” she says.

Also new will be the Mystical Haven Mobile Farm Park which is a petting farm. This will be held close to the equestrian area where the Two Day Equestrian Event will be held in addition to live bands, children’s activities, dog trials, sheep racing, vin-tage and racing cars, the always crowd pleasing wood chopping, sheep shearing. Merino Concepts will present the 1800s Sheep Shearing and Wool Show.

For more information or if you are interested in entering, booking a trade site, volunteering or wanting any further de-tails on anything please contact the A&P office on 422 2052 warkworth-society@clear.net.nz or Vanessa Barber on 0274 758 992.
