Premium wine labels come to MangawhaiSail Rock brings to Mangawhai two of New Zealand’s most respected wine names in a food and wine matching and tasting treat on the evening of Wednesday August 21 presenting the Matawhero and Brunton Road labels.
Established in 1968 by Bill Irwin, Hawkes Bay’s Matawhero Wines defied convention and made wines of boutique standing and international acclaim and in doing so, changed the face of New Zealand winemaking forever. Since its first vintage in 1975, Matawhero has produced many excellent and often adventurous wines. Following in Bill’s pioneering footsteps, son Denis imparted his own colourful style and won fame for his Gewurztraminer (everyone was drinking it, even the Queen) winning medals both here and overseas. Today, under management of the Searle family, Matawhero is true to the founders’ determination, producing individualistic wines of world class standard. The Matawhero Church has graced the label since 1975 with the Church House series a tribute to this historic building and an inspiration to the pioneering spirits of the founders. In a double billing the Searle family also produce the Brunton Road range which numbers among it’s achievements international award-winning Chardonnay exuding all the flavour and characteristics that the unique Gisborne climate can provide. The evening will be hosted by Kirsten Searle so those attending will learn the grassroots story of good wines. Diners can feel a degree of privilege in having wines of such renown brought right to our own doorstep and, with food to match, this will be an experience to enjoy. Please register your attendance at Sail Rock Restaurant. |
