Mangawhai inherits new kiwis Thirteen people from five different nations took part in a citizenship ceremony at the Northern Wairoa Memorial Hall last week and left as citizens of New Zealand. Several of them are now residents and working in Mangawhai.
The new inductees sang the national anthem in both Maori and English, an achievement on it’s own. Then, having taken the Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance they may now call themselves New Zealanders. This was followed by a series of photos and afternoon tea, Kiwi style. Our new citizens are: Simon Barnsley, Michael Hookings, Micheal Hill, Kevin Haigh, Anne Spraggon (Great Britain), the Jamal family of Mohammed Jamal, Rukshana Jamal, Rukshaar Bi and Mohammed Ishaq (Fiji), Karen Barrett, Thomas Kenney (USA), Kushi Ram (India), and Mthunzi Siwela (Zimbabwe). |
