Sweet and sour comes to MangawhaiIn the nicest possi-ble way the food outlets in Wood St have recently been further enhanced by the opening of the Sushi Gallery adding this de-lectable finger-food to a list that includes almost everything from toasted sandwiches and pies to fine dining.
On the savoury side, Korean husband and wife team BK and MinJoo Kim have expanded their Warkworth operation to give Mangawhai a taste of this essentially Japanese delight and it is being hailed as a great success by diners. BK explains that Ko-rean Sushi differs slightly from its Japanese coun- terpart containing less vinegar but with over a dozen varieties to choose from plus kebabs, dump-lings and skewers, cus-tomers have little trouble finding something to tick-le their taste buds. The va-riety also includes chick-en, pork, prawns and fish plus vegetarian options, sides of salad and Kim Chi (pickled cabbage), main dishes and miso soup and green tea. BK says they are very happy with their open-ing acceptance in just the first week and are looking forward to serving all our summer visitors. On the sweet side, just metres away and about to throw open it’s doors, is Dizzy Lizzy’s Ice Cream Parlour. Like stepping back in time Liz and Mar-tin Hutchin are work-ing feverishly to bring us over 30 flavours of gelato themed by the old-style 1950s American milk bar. Gelato is made on-site, plus the range includes real banana splits, thick-shakes, smoothies and waffles. It’s a tried and true rec-ipe that the couple origi-nally established in Sil-verdale and now bring to summer in Mangawhai. Watch for the ‘Open’ sign this coming weekend. |
