Council offers info by email

Keeping up to date with the latest information from Kaipara District Council or getting early advice about consultation opportunities is now as simple as opening an e-mail. 

To make information as accessible as possible and keep ratepayers and residents informed, the council has introduced a new service where information on issues of interest is emailed direct to their in-box. 

All that is required is to register by logging on to the council’s website, www.kaipara.govt.nz clicking the “sign up for email information” button in the top right hand corner and filling in a simple form on-line. 

This includes indicating areas of interest, such as Civil Defence and emergency warnings, events, newsletters and updates from the council’s commissioners, Long Term Plan, Annual Plans and reports plus council press releases. 

Only people registering will receive the emails so those who do not will not be spammed and recipients can unsubscribe at any time. 

Also, the email addresses provided will be kept confidential by council. 

Corporate services manager, Barbara Ware, says the system is being used successfully by other councils and sees it as a valuable way of providing quick and easy access to information and consultation opportunities without a lot of extra work or cost. 

“We also have to consider that 34 percent of our ratepayers are non-resident which means that about one-third probably don’t have access to our local papers and not everyone regularly uses the web.” 

She says while the new system is designed with Kaipara ratepayers and residents in mind, it is available to anyone who wants to keep in touch with council affairs or learn more about the Kaipara district. 

“I expect it will grow and hopefully people will suggest other areas of information that they are interested in.”
