Friendships tested in second record club saga
Mangawhai author Roy Vaughan has released the second book in his Mereleigh Record Club trilogy, a series about a group of west London record club members who reunite for adventures after more than 30 years. Following on from the adventurous first book – The Mereleigh record Club Tour of New Zealand – where the friends decide on a tour to New Zealand to meet another of their long lost members, the second of the series, The Mereleigh Record Club Tour of Japan, sees the group vowing to keep in closer contact. And after they are contacted by a similar record club from Japan as a result of their new-found notoriety, they are invited there on an all-expenses-paid trip. “The Mereleigh Record Club Tour of Japan takes a bit of concentration,” says Roy “but interwoven are enlightening excerpts of steam trains, 60s music, Japanese culture and customs, history and geography, it’s sometimes merciless underworld, it’s ardent love of rugby and, of course, karaoke.” Author Roy Vaughan has used his personal knowledge and experience of Japan to good use as the basis of a story which drives its characters towards the next book in the series. The Mereleigh Record Club Tour of Japan book launch will be held at Mangawhai Books & Gifts, Wood St, Mangawhai, on Thursday February 14 at midday followed by refreshments next door at Sail Rock Café. |
