Crews battle fire overnight Mangawhai volunteer firefighters joined crews from Wellsford and Warkworth, a dozen other appliances plus two helicopters in fighting a scrub fire at Okahukura Rd, Tapora, west of Wellsford.
The blaze began Tuesday and firefighters battled the blaze overnight.
The southern edge of the fire spread rapidly when the easterly wind picked up on Wednesday morning causing it to increase sixfold during the day.
By late Thursday, though parts of the fire had been contained, the effected area still covered over 100 hectares.
