Flowers big part of dirty weekend
There may be almost drought conditions in Northland, but gardens are blooming at the Otamatea Repertory Theatre. The theatre stage props team recently spent a busy afternoon making potted flowering plants to use in their upcoming comedy Dirty Weekends, a play by Roger Hall and Philip Norman. Dirty Weekends is all about gardening, New Zealand's favourite pastime. The jokes spring up like weeds, the situations tangle like clematis and the songs sparkle like hoses on a summer evening. The show follows the horticultural frustrations of three Kiwi couples as they dig, fertilise, plant, prune and intrigue. With their fingers on the Kiwi pulse, Roger Hall and Philip Norman hit the mark for a good night’s entertainment. With opening night only a matter of weeks away, the actors are busy perfecting their performances for a blooming wonderful opening night on March 15 at the theatre in Maungaturoto. Tickets are available now online at www.ort.org.nz and at Tony’s Lotto Shop in Maungaturoto. |
