The number of televisions dropped off for recycling in the Northland region in the first three months of the TV TakeBack programme according to the Ministry for the Environment.

Kaipara residents have dropped off 155 televisions and used 18 percent of its quota.

The Government is subsidising the cost of recycling an old TV in an effort to divert them from landfill now that New Zealand has gone digital.

The number of Northlanders who lend a hand. How? Northland locals are very active in the community according to the statistics. Nearly one in five Northlanders said they did voluntary unpaid work with an organisation, group, or marae in the four weeks leading up to census day. That’s around 20,300 people lending a helping hand – the highest proportion of all regions in the country.

The amount of dollars won by a lucky Warkworth resident after winning Lotto First Division last weekend.

The winner was watching the live Lotto draw on TV and circled one number after another on her ticket, until the realisation hit that she’d won the big one.

“I’m going to look for a piece of land, something to call my own,” the winner said. “I’m so excited that I can finally do this.”

The winner bought her ticket from Woody’s Winners in Wellsford.

“I always buy my ticket there because it’s a lucky store – they’d already sold 13 Lotto First Division winners. Now it’s 14!”

Where Mangawhai Heads rated in the top ten holiday destinations according to figures released by holiday home rental website Bookabach. This was over the time period December 20 to January 5 and took into account where they stayed, for how long and for how much.

In fact, over the two week period Northland topped the most popular list taking 18 percent of Bookabach’s 50,397 travelers recorded nationwide.

Whangamata topped the list boasting the highest number of nights booked overall for the sixth year in a row.
