Oxfam team on missionUnder the Mangawhai Focus banner Mel Tito, Yvonne Boakes, Megan Bennett and publisher Rob Pooley are working up to the Oxfam 100km Trailwalker fundraiser at Taupo on April 5/6. “It’s not on our bucket list,’ says Team 4Play co-ordinator Mel Tito. “It’s just something we want to achieve plus raise funds for Oxfam and we would like the public to help by supporting us with donations which go towards those less fortunate.” This is not a relay. Teams have 36 hours to complete the 100 kilometres but Team 4Play is aiming for 20-24 hours. The trick is that team members must all arrive together at each of the eight checkpoints along the way. “It’s an all-day, all-night trek but between a publisher, and three mums we reckon we’re well qualified to ‘knock the bastard off’,” says Rob Pooley. We’ll keep up to date with their training and preparation so watch each issue or go to oxfamtrailwalker.org.nz and key in 4Play to follow their progress.
