New frequency sees big coverage for wireless 90.4FMIt may have been the holiday season over the past few months for a lot of people, but Mangawhai radio station owner, Mark Perry, has been busy getting new equipment installed and configured for his new station, The Wireless.
The new station, sister station to Heads 106.4FM, has been on air locally in Mangawhai on low power of only 1 watt since May 2014. In November, when the Government auctioned off nationwide frequencies, Mark was the successful bidder in obtaining a 100 watt commercial licence for 90.4FM. Now, with test transmissions completed, the “switch has been flicked”. The Wireless is now on 90.4FM on the dial, giving coverage from Marsden Cove in Bream Bay to Pakiri, including Wellsford and Mangawhai, with a programme of timeless, classic nostalgia music, regular ZB news and sport and local community information. “Anybody over 50 will remember the days when the radio in the house was referred to as ‘the wireless’, so I’m trying to recapture the sound and familiarity of that time, particularly in this day and age where everything seems to be aimed at the young!” quips Perry. Mark is also planning to have Sunday Night Serials as a special feature in the near future. The Wireless 90.4FM will also be a part of the Emergency Response Plan working with local and regional councils. Civil Defence or severe weather warnings will be broadcast now on both stations for residents of the Bream Bay and Mangawhai coastal and hinterland regions. Mark Perry welcomes advertising enquiries and community information by email to thewireless@gmail.com. The Wireless can also be heard anywhere by streaming on digital devices via the station’s Facebook page and tunein.com, simply by searching for “The Wireless”. |
