Waipu wearable arts calls designersThe 5th Annual Waipu Museum Art n Tartan Wearable Art Awards will be held again this year in June.
Prize money has increased with a pool of over $6,500 making the event an attractive proposition for designers from all over the country. Waipu Museum is looking for artists and designers to enter and begin preparing their works for the June showing which is always sold out ahead of the first night, where the event is becoming so popular that this year an extra evening showing has been included in the schedule. Designers will receive wide coverage of their entries on a range of media. This year there is a new category for those handy DIY blokes and blokesses. Called The Engine Room, it is a must for those who enjoy constructing in wood or metal. In all categories, each design must comprise at least 30 percent tartan to reflect the towns Highland heritage. The tartan can be rendered in any medium. Designers can find inspiration from previous designs. “The show itself is a dramatised presentation of all entries woven together with music, light and artwork creating a magical extravaganza you won't want to miss being part of,” says organiser Tracy Chapman. Artists can be assured of a wonderful fun-filled experience where everyone is given support and encouragement.” ■ Enquiries to Tracy Chapman (09) 432 0896, artntartan@gmail.com or download an entry form from www.waipumuseum.com. DRAMA: Waipu’s heritage is reflected in every extravagant outfit. |
