Let’s share our culture
Recently, early January, my husband and I spent a week staying at your beautiful Waipu Cove. Most days we would come into town. We very much enjoyed your current WWI exhibition of and visiting the museum.

What we were extremely disappointed in was the lack of indigenous history. Where are the stories of the local Maori who populated the land long before 'the great migration'? What were the first interactions like between the indigenous and the visitors? What were local Maori contributions to the WWI effort?

The ethno-centric approach you have taken shocked us. It is 2022. We live in a bi-cultural country. Let's be proud of – and tell all of – our stories. We live in a rich and beautiful country steeped in a unique culture. Let's share it.
