Museum looking for volunteersTo build on its great start, the Mangawhai museum is looking for more volunteers. People are needed to meet and greet visitors and help with a myriad of back-room jobs – there are collections to be maintained and future displays to be planned.
It has been a great first two months for the museum, with visitor numbers far exceeding expectations. A combination of warm weather and greater than expected visitor numbers made the viewing experience a warm one, but thanks to some great support an air-conditioning system was sourced and installed right in the middle of the holiday season. Feedback has been hugely positive say museum officials, and the coffee bar already has a loyal following of regulars, especially for the Devonshire Teas. Recently-arrived resident John Peters has been a volunteer for about 6 months. “When my wife and I are out around the district there is always someone we know from the museum,” he says. “It has been great for helping us settle in to life in Mangawhai.” If you think you might enjoy being a volunteer, the museum is hosting a morning tea on Monday February 23 at 10am. People attending will get a chance to see the sort of work carried out and be able to meet current volunteers like John. |
