Former Chief Executive Threatens Injunction

Kaipara District Council’s former chief executive, Jack McKerchar, has threatened an injunction to stop the release of details around his severance package being made public. 

Kaipara District Council commissioners have said the non-release of the Deed of Settlement, which contains details of the severance package, is hindering their ability to address the issues facing the district. 

Commissioners have asked current chief executive, Steve Ruru, to consider their concerns when deciding whether or not to release the Deed following further requests from the public. 

Mr Ruru wanted to make a decision about releasing the Deed before Christmas. However, Mr McKerchar's lawyers advised of their intent to file an injunction application, blocking any decision being made. 

If an injunction is filed, the application will be heard by the Employment Relations Authority in the New Year.
