Shuttle service successful says operatorLeabourn Passenger Service principal, Lyndon Leabourn, is satisfied with the summer shuttle following the first test run of the ‘shops to sands’ service which ran during the peak holiday period. The trial service, designed to reduce traffic congestion and aid people movement around Mangawhai was instigated and supported jointly by Leabourns, Whangarei Regional Council, Kaipara District Council and the Mangawhai Business Development Association. Mr Leabourn reported that there was a strong correlation between numbers using the service and the fine weather when greater numbers headed to the surf club beaches and a couple of very windy days had reduced numbers considerably. However, users (up to 30 per day of all ages) included tourists, skaters, those who didn’t want the hassle of parking near the shops or doctors, and even some using it as a work bus getting from the Village to Wood St. Minor hiccups related to difficulties with the public parking in designated bus stops but Leabourn is optimistic such things can be overcome and a full review of the service will be done on completion of the trial. The Focus would be pleased to hear from anyone who has used the service for their opinion and evaluation. Send your opinion to info@mangawhaifocus.co.nz. |
