Bowls fun day like no other

 

Plenty of sunscreen, food and liquids, and maybe a crazy outfit, were the only requirements for a fun day on the greens at the annual Mangawhai Bowls Fun Day for non-bowlers held at The Club on December 28.

A regular event on the summer social calendar for the last 15 years, 42 teams of four lined up on a beautifully fine afternoon to enjoy what could only be described as good-natured fun with a fine line between competition and chaos and very few giving much concern for results.

Teams consisted of one bowler and three non-bowlers – grown-ups who don’t know their left hands from their right, a family day that pits young and old against each other on a level playing field.

But it’s all part of the fun at an event that grows by the year.

Overall winners were The 4 Fils, The Hideaway Girls, The North Shore Boys & Stella, and Dickens Cider.

A special prize for the best fancy dress was won by the Drippy Drooper with the Monks a close second.

With the third green operating next year, even more teams are expected in the future.
