The day Mangawhai comes aliveHolidaymakers were drawn in their droves to the annual gala at the Mangawhai Domain on January 2.
Pre-Christmas concerns about how the weather would influence the event were allayed as summer arrived in all its glory. “The domain committee thanks volunteers, the local community, visitors and others for the very successful Mangawhai Gala 2015,” said spokesman John Dickie. “On things over which we have more control, we measure success in terms of the enjoyment of the day by those attending, the ability of stallholders to make money, and for funds raised by the domain committee for the majority of our annual maintenance, operating and minor capital works.” Mr Dickie says the committee is currently preparing a long-term plan for the overall domain. Positive feedback from the public and the stallholders has been very satisfying for the domain committee. Such fundraising would not have been possible without the support of well over 100 volunteers on the day. Generous sponsorship and donations from individuals, businesses and stallholders all added to domain profits. New traffic control measures were implemented this year making for a much smoother operation, better traffic flow and greater safety on main thoroughfares. In summary, a fabulous community spirited day with a festive atmosphere and planning is already well under way for Gala 2016. n The public are invited to email mangawhaigala@gmail.com or ring John on 431 4873 with any comments or suggestions they might have. |
