Golf fundraiser helps museum add final touchesThe Mangawhai Museum project is at an exciting stage, with the finishing touches now being added and the museum’s opening expected in approximately six months, says Mangawhai Historical Society president Christine Bygrave.
“Community help is needed to help through the final stages of the project work, now underway.” The Society will host a golf fundraising event at the Mangawhai Golf Club on Friday February 7 – the day after Waitangi Day and no doubt part of an extended holiday weekend for many. The charity golf tournament and auction will feature some fantastic prizes and give the Mangawhai Historical Society a funding boost as it completes the museum building and exhibits.” The Mangawhai Museum project had its beginnings in the late 1990’s as the existing museum had become too small to host the artifacts and stories of Mangawhai. In 2009 a ground-breaking ceremony was held on the corner of Molesworth Drive and Thelma Street and in 2010 the footings for the new museum were established. Now the Society has in place a building insured for $1.8 million and no debt, thanks to the dedication and hard work of a wonderful group of volunteers and supporters. A multitude of fundraising projects have been part of the success of the project. “At this time we are completing some permanent interior walls, building a replica Auckland tram bach and preparing the stories and other exhibits that will be on display,” Christine says. “We will value any offers of support to assist us through the final stages before opening – and particularly welcome your attendance and involvement in the golf fundraising day in February.” ■ Golf entries or enquiries to Christine Bygrave, phone 431 2057, email christinebygrave@gmail.com. Entries confirmed by $60 payment per player to Mangawhai Historical Society bank account 06-0493-0468452-00. FINAL STAGES: Nearing completion, Mangawhai Museum is just months away from opening. |
