Tomarata tag taking offTag is NZ's fastest growing non-contact sport and Tomarata Rugby Club’s Tag Football Module is leading the way in the north though a module has recently opened in Kerikeri.
As one of the two modules in Northland, Tomarata have been invited to send a team to the Tag Football Nationals to be held in Henderson in February to represent Northland. This is a great opportunity for the players, firstly to represent their region in a national competition and secondly to see how others play the game. In just their second season the club has signed up a grand total of 360 registered players. Thanks to the support of the Tomarata Rugby Club and business sponsorship they will also be sending an adults open mixed team in Northland blue. Open trials for players registered at both Tomarata and Kerikeri were held on Saturday January 4 at the Tomarata grounds with a host of over 16-year-olds lining up for a shot at selection. The NZ Tag Football Referees Association is keen to develop our youth referees, an integral part of the future of the sport, and Northland has several potential referees who may also have the opportunity to attend the nationals with their whistles. Kyle Robinson and Scott Millar are doing a stellar job in organising the Northland trials and teams. All details are online at www.sportsground.co.nz/tomaratatag. |
