Tourists asked to support lifesaverVisitors to Northland this summer are being encouraged to get on their smart phones or tablets and donate generously to Northland’s Electricity Rescue Helicopter Year25 fundraising appeal.
Northpower Public Affairs Manager Steve Macmillan says Northland’s population more than doubles in summer – to well over 350,000 – and it is critical that visitors contribute to Northland’s charitable air ambulance service. “I’d ask that visitors to the North don’t take for granted this lifesaving service – nor the pilots and paramedics who are there for anyone, anytime… day or night,” says Mr Macmillan. Chief pilot Pete Turnbull says the annual summer population increase puts immense pressure on Northland’s medical and air ambulance facilities. His operation is the busiest air ambulance service in New Zealand. “Unfortunately accidents happen. Northland’s Electricity Rescue Helicopters will save lives this summer but the fact is we need public donations to survive ourselves because we are by far the busiest air ambulance service in New Zealand and we operate on a very lean budget,” says Mr Turnbull. Donations can be made online to ERH Appeal 12-3106-0046000-00. LIFESAVERS: Visitor donations will help keep Northland’s helicopter heroes in the air. |
