First touch tourny big successThe inaugural Whanaunga Touch Tournament was held at the Kaiwaka Sports Complex recently. Twelve whanau teams vied for the chance to win the title and a prestigious trophy. A large crowd enjoyed the matches as well as stalls and kids rides. Profit from the day went to the Otamatea Marae.
Congratulations to tournament winners Paparoa Point Homestead, second place Kaipara Hawks, and third Kia tupato. Other prize winners and awards: Top try-scorers John-Luke Whitehead (male), Savarna Asafo (fem); Youngest Player Miracle Manukau (8-years-old); Oldest Player Naomi Foster (49-years-old); Quickest try off the mark Tisyn Watts; Team spirit Kia Tupato; Best presented team Untouched; Most points in a game Kemp Whanau; Player of the Tournament Savarna Asofo. Many thanks to the organisers, referees, stall holders and to the many volunteers, and for the support of major sponsors Fonterra and the Kaiwaka Sports Association.
