Fundraiser seeks top bakerFundraising is generally fashioned around sausage sizzles, wine and music events and gala days but members of Wellsford Fire brigade and St John have come up with a novel and entertaining idea.
Expanding on the My Kitchen Rules (MKR) theme, the fundraising team headed by Ingrid McCracken have organised a competition to find Wellsford’s Top Homebaker 2015. To be held at the Wellsford Community Centre on Valentine's Day, February 14, the event will have major sponsorship from Dayne and Jolie Riddell of Top 4 Square in Wellsford. “Its a community fundraiser for our local fire brigade and St John and in true community spirit is open to all those who may wish to enter,” says Ingrid. Different from MKR, entrants will be given the option of a number of cakes, cupcakes, slices and fudge. No doubt Grandma’s secret recipes will be well guarded and executed. Iced cakes with a Valentines Day theme will form another section and kids will also be catered for with judges looking for the best choc chip cookies. But wait, there’s more. Warkworth Tupperware guru Kersna Sullivan will also prepare a special dish then members from St John and the Fire Brigade will be asked to step into the kitchen and produce a replica. Run along the lines of the former British TV show Generation Game, this could end in either domination or disaster but will no doubt be entertaining. However, the highlight will be the appearance of four entrants from the highly successful MKR show. Nicknamed the ‘Christchurch cuties’, Ricki-Mae and Jessie are flying up from Christchurch to judge and will be joined on the panel by ‘Two Fat Cats’ Josh and Aaron who are heading up from Auckland. “We have been so fortunate to secure the support of these four stars from TVNZ's My Kitchen Rulz and, if you can believe this, they are not charging us to come up and do this for us,” adds Ingrid, obviously excited about how the event is coming together. This will be a night of family entertainment with a whole lot more to the event than the title initially suggests. Other sponsors include Pams, Farmlands Wellsford, Tupperware and Lake Road Quarries with entry forms available from Top 4 Square and tickets from Bammas, Mangawhai Village. CHRISTCHURCH CUTIES: MKR contestants Ricki-Mae Paisley and Jessie Smulders make up half the Wellsford judging team. |
