Trust welcomes Walking Weekend fundsProceeds from last year’s Mangawhai Walking Weekend were handed to Mangawhai Tracks Charitable Trust trustee Jean Goldschmidt by Dorothy Freeman on behalf of the Walking Weekend organisers.
The funds allow the Tracks Trust to build, bridges, boardwalks, steps and other structures on new tracks as well as upgrading structures on old ones. Currently a track is being built to link the Mangawhai Community Park via Paul’s Track to Thelma Road North. The track passes round the boundary of the golf course and follows a paper road through some rugged weed-infested country according to Gordon Hosking, Chair of the Trust. “We need to build a couple of small bridges and a number of steps, but hope to have the track passable by the end of the month,” he said. The Walking Weekend is the Trust’s main sponsor, without which most new tracks could not be completed.
