Winter workshops in July11 July, 2022 Two new workshops are being offered at the Mangawhai Artists Workspace (located behind the Gallery at 45 Moir Street) during the month of July. Bream Bay artists Colin and Ann Coutts are presenting a wet needle felting workshop for beginners, and Mangawhai artist Nicola Everett is leading a drypoint printmaking class. “Felting is made using wool, hot soapy water and agitation, net curtain, bubble wrap and PVC pipe for binding the fleece together,” says Colin. “The fibres tangle and combine producing a fabric that can then be used to create a sculpture or wall hanging, shoes or hats, or whatever your imagination can think of!” “Mangawhai artist Nicola Everett is a very experienced printmaker,” says Belinda Vernon, from Mangawhai Artists. “In this class she is teaching a particular technique called drypoint, a printmaking process where a design is drawn on a plate with a sharp, pointed needle-like instrument.” Workshop class sizes are limited. More details can be found on the Learning Opportunities page at mangawhaiartists.co.nz The Mangawhai Artists Gallery is closed for the month of July for maintenance. The gallery will open on the evening of August 4 with a members’ exhibition, launching the new, fully-subscribed 2022/2023 Mangawhai Artists exhibition season. “The new season presents a mix of solo, duo and group exhibitions presented by artists in a range of media,” says Belinda. “We are excited to welcome the work of a number of new artists to the gallery as well as those who have exhibited and wowed us in the past.” |
