Northland company chosen to construct Hawaiki cable landing stationLongstanding Northland electrical company, McKay Ltd, has signed a contract with Hawaiki Submarine Cable LP, the owner and developer of the Hawaiki submarine cable system, for the build of the Cable Landing Station (CLS) in Mangawhai Heads. The Hawaiki submarine cable system is a new trans-Pacific cable, which will link New Zealand and Australia to mainland United States, as well as Hawaii, with options to expand to several South Pacific islands. The system will be in service by June 2018. Under the multi-million dollar contract, McKay will design and construct the Hawaiki cable landing station. The scope of work includes the complete civil, building, electrical, standby generation, AC and DC UPS systems, and HVAC systems to provide the required CLS facility for Hawaiki. “McKay is proud to be associated with such a landmark project,” says McKay managing director Lindsay Faithfull. “Hawaiki had very particular requirements and we came up with a unique Northland-based solution that included our local partners and met Hawaiki’s needs.” Hawaiki Submarine Cable LP CEO, Remi Galasso, says the contract represents a key step forward for Hawaiki system deployment in New Zealand. “We are proud to participate to the economic development of the Northland region and are confident that McKay will deliver this critical piece of infrastructure in the most efficient and timely manner.” |
