Amazing race comes to MangawhaiFor all those tuff guys and gals out there into team sports, mud runs and the like, why not try something a little different, challenging and fun – plus try and out-muscle our Magawhai Cadet troop.
This version of the Amazing Race has previously only involved Cadet Units. Last year a couple of outside teams took part and loved it but this year it’s open to all-comers. It’s really just a casual 18km beach jaunt, but on steroids! It’s a team exercise so choose your best 8 - 10 team members but ‘best’ is not necessarily the strongest or fastest. Starting at Te Arai teams head towards Pakiri then back along the beach all the way to Black Swamp Road, 18km in total with eight compulsory ‘exercises’ along the way that they must complete before continuing. This is where the team work comes in, brain versus brawn, and where teams can win bonus points or time penalties where they have to sit out for 10 minutes. We can’t disclose the exercises as they are secret but can say the first will be a beach dig where teams must find three different items which sets the teams off at different times. Last year’s winners took four hours with the last placed team crossing the line in six hours and loving it! Everything is about team work and fun – a great winter exercise that can be done no matter what the weather. Sunday August 2. Be there. Lots of fun and prizes. TEAM BUILDER: Mangawhai Cadet Unit members breathing hard during last years event. |
