New journey for reggae crewHave you wondered where reggae group Sweet & Irie has been?
Vibrant front man and lead vocalist Edward Ru has been having time out with his family as well as writing for Sweet & Irie’s next music journey. Sweet & Irie burst on the local music scene with the top 10 hit Feels Like Magic alongside Horsemen Family and their guest appearance on local favourite Take It Out South. Leading a new wave of reggae music, original songs like Uncle Bob and Sweet & Irie are timeless tunes that speak to the foundation of reggae, while songs like Mama, Don't Cry and My Girl are a new dimension ready for sound systems and radio speakers everywhere. Now with new management and a new record label, new single Scandalous (released during NZ Music Month) has powerfully distinctive and passionate vocals from Ed Ru and also features two Hip Hop artists – young MC J Kupa, and from the Horsemen Family, the legendary Devolo. There is no doubt that the group is carving a new path for their loyal fans, and for new fans it's never too late to discover the distinctive reggae hit-making sound of Sweet & Irie on their mid-winter tour. n Sweet & Irie, Mangawhai Tavern, August 8, 8.30pm, tickets $20, R18. <<ends>> SWEET & IRIE: Back with new music after time out. |
