July School holidays at Kauri museumCelebrate Matariki Exhibition: July 7 - August 20 The Seven Stars or Sisters of the Matariki constellation are represent-ed in this annual exhibition by local primary schools that reside in the seven ridings of the old Otamatea District, spanning from Tokatoka in the West to Mangawhai in the East. Each school has been invited to create Matariki themed displays us-ing a combination of traditional and non-traditional materials. Bernard Makoare will join the local schools on July 23 in a musical celebration by demonstrating Taonga Puroro (musical instruments). The Kauri Underground Interactive Display: Open July 1 This multimedia display is aimed at children and adults alike and tells the story of the unique soil that the mighty Kauri Tree creates. Learn more about the geography of North-land and the legacy that Kauri Tree forests have created. School Holiday Activities: Wednesday-Friday, 10am – 12pm Come and join our staff and volunteers in our school holiday drop in activities that will engage children and grandparents alike, on these wet, windy, winter mornings. A selection of craft-making activities will be on offer, in addition to good old fashioned story telling in the Boarding House. Wrap up your morning visit with homemade soup at the Gumdiggers café.
