Morning tee and (golf) club sandwichesThe first Afternoon TEE for women at the Mangawhai Golf Club in June was viewed as a resounding success by co-ordinator Geraldine Speed. “We had a bevy of both golfers and non-golfers attending which was our aim,” says Geraldine, “but more importantly it showed to many the wonderful facility we have at the golf club as a venue for a variety of activities, a wonderful catering service with first class meals available, a great view of the course, and an opportunity for women to meet others in a social sporting atmosphere.” This is unashamedly a drive to increase women members but with a number of benefits. The social aspect aside it ap-pears there are a number of local women from various backgrounds interested in taking up a new activity but are unsure who to approach. Just turn up to the clubhouse on Sunday 20 July for Morning TEE, enjoy an enthusiastic welcome and see what transpires. The club offers free lessons for newcomers as well as membership concessions and with a dozen newcomers from the first meeting there is no chance of feeling out of place as the ‘new chum’. From juniors through to top graders, the Mangawhai course is highly ranked and, being an all-weather course, attracts many who are unable to play elsewhere. The club also caters for art exhibitions, Pilates classes and Zonta meetings and is a strong exponent of fundraising activities for worthy local causes. „ Morning Tee, Mangawhai Golf Club, Sunday July 20, morning tea time. All welcome. |
