Golf juniors look to build on rookie seasonThe first year back in junior pennants after a long absence has been a huge learning curve for the young Mangawhai teams says manager Julian Rous, with only one player having any pennants experience.
“With one team topping the points table and finishing the season fourth overall, the boys can be proud of the way they played,” says Julian, who is looking forward to building on the recent season, hoping to hang the pennant on the champions wall at the Mangawhai Golf Club. Julian also has high praise for the support given to the juniors over the last season. “Thanks goes to all the parents of our team members for their support at events and a huge thanks to Bronnie Winter and Michael McDonald at Golf Northland for their energy and commitment to our junior golfers.” Mangawhai golf academy players are still participating in their training sessions and are about to start their busy winter schedule with the first big event – The Top of The Harbour Junior Open – at Waipu on July 15. Junior pennant teams for 2013 are: ■ Mangawhai Stingrays: Tarrin Rous, Aston Hoskins, Jack Oldfield, Aaron Allot, Pacey Laing-Smith. ■ Mangawhai Sharks: Jamie Thomas, Billy MacGillivray, Liam Leslie-Sutton, Talon Diamond. |
