Singing lessons strike right chordWaipu husband and wife team Lisa and Douglas Gordon have over 20 years of live performance behind them as recording artists locally and internationally working full-time as well-known covers band Tempist Fujit.
Currently they are taking some time out to record their own homegrown debut album, all produced by Douglas in their own purpose-built studio in Waipu. While days are busy perfecting their arrangements, Lisa has, due to popular demand, returned to a former occupation of giving singing lessons, a service she previously provided at Bream Bay College. All lessons are held in Waipu and include pitch control, stage presence and, most important, breathing. Students get to take home a recording of their progress on completion. “It’s an interesting and exciting journey for both myself and my pupils as many are fans of say, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce or Mariah Carey and want to sing just like them so they have to be taught to nurture their own voice to bring out their own sound,” says Lisa. Lisa says many of her ‘wannabes’ are just like she was when she first entered the entertainment industry so this is a way of giving something back. The popularity of her classes is evident as her pupils are aged from five to 60. For some this is possibly the start of a career, for others its simply a little self-indulgence. Ages are open but numbers are limited so please be quick to register as it’s first in, first served. ■ For singing lessons with Lisa Gordon phone 432 0773. |
