Wellsford group works on promotionWellsford is a town that sees high volumes of traffic through it’s main street on a daily basis and especially during holiday periods but relatively few stop long enough to sample what the town has to offer. The Wellsford Promotions Association is now inviting not only business people but all members of the public to a brainstorming evening to mix and mingle and co-ordinate ideas. The group wants ideas that may highlight, beautify and generally promote Wellsford as a destination or stopover point for travellers and visitors rather than simply a route to further north. While the economic downturn has hampered development within the town and the closure of key employers has led to a loss of confidence in some sectors, residents agree that as a rural service centre with high traffic flow, good ideas could lead to the town reaching its potential as a business hub and travel stopover. Towns like Wellsford rely on volunteer input and the goodwill, generosity and loyalty of residents, schools, sports clubs and business people to pool their ideas and resources in highlighting the services the town has to offer. ■ Wellsford Community Centre Lounge, Tuesday July 9, 6.15pm–8pm. All welcome. |
