The Zonta Club of Mangawhai recently hosted an evening at Harvest Café to welcome back 2012 Spirit of Adventure Scholarship recipient Hayley Aldworth to talk about her 10-day voyage.
Hayley showed a PowerPoint of a day-to-day outline of her trip with highlights and challenges that included climbing to the top of the mast, early morning swims, taking the helm, combating seasickness and forging lasting friendships with other voyagers from all over New Zealand.
Hayley was also the proud recipient of the Amokura Award for the trainee whose community spirit and consideration to others contributed significantly to the success of the voyage.
“We congratulate Hayley once again for her success,” said Zonta’s Liz Holsted, “and thank her for being such a wonderful ambassador for Zonta and wish her all the best for her future endeavours.”
On the same night the club also hosted Ella Stowerk, Youth Ambassador for Unicef.
Ella spoke about her experiences with Unicef, her passion to eliminate child poverty and her ambitions in politics.
These two young women certainly epitomise the Zonta mantra of empowering women and inspiring futures.
