A barn dance to beat them allIn an amazing month of entertainment and fun the Scottish way, there is something for the whole family to enjoy and partake of, the theme being, of course, tartan, and the celebration of the spirit and ancestry of Waipu. Beginning with a tartan-infested family day at Ruakaka races, get along and step up for some of the prizes on offer. Later on the whole family can enter the shortbread baking contest, littlies and oldies can march with their tartan-clad pets in the street parade. Men in kilts rugby is a sight to behold as is the Tarts in Tar-tan netballers when Mums show the youngsters how it’s done. You won’t want to miss the GRAND OPENING OF THE WAIPU CELTIC BARN, in this fabulous new facility for all to enjoy including dinner and drinks. It will be a great night with some great entertainment. The show of the month is the Art’n’Tartan Wear-able Arts show. The biggest yet with over forty entrants strutting their stuff, weaving their way into a magical performance of light, colour and wonderfully stirring mu-sic and Highland pipes playing alongside a Maori waiata, plus the renowned Hatea Ka-pahaka Group performance. Prizes galore and you can vote for your choice. Farmers of the district are expected out in force for the great Waipu Milk-off to be the fastest milker in the Shire- the mind boggles. Sounds like a lot of bull – but a lot of fun and that’s not to mention haggis-tasting and probably a wee dram.
