Many hands make light workAround 40 volunteers gathered at the Maungaturoto farm of Ashley and Karen Cullen on Saturday June 6 to plant native trees. In just a few hours members and volunteers of the Otamatea HarbourCare Society had planted around 1500 trees along the banks of a stream with the aim of cleaning up the Kaipara Harbour. Television personality Te Radar was a star attraction to the event, thanks to the initiative of Society secretary Mark Vincent who simply asked him if he would like to be involved – and he promptly said yes. But it was no red carpet walk for Radar, who has been involved in similar projects before and knew how to use a spade. Pictured in the foreground is planter Andrew Knox from Dargaville with Te Radar back left. |
