Mangawhai Park residents taken by stormWhat could only be described as a mini-tornado swept through Mangawhai Park during one of last week’s sudden bursts of wind and rain.
Accompanied by a sudden and powerful wind the storm devoured garden furniture, rubbish bins, deck chairs and gazebos, and any other small items in its path. While the gust cut a narrow zig-zag swathe through the park it was all over in a matter of seconds. “It flipped a big stainless steel barbecue over and tossed a wooden table two metres into the air and carried it about eight metres,” said resident Murray Fell. “One can only wonder what might have happened if there was anyone in its path as it was pretty savage.” Fortunately nobody was injured and residents had things cleaned up and shipshape again in fairly short order. |
